Leipi Miklavž/Lepi Miklavž/Handsome Nicholas
Leipi Miklavž illustrates a folk tale from Slovenian Porabje, a region on the west of Hungary where a Slovenian minority lives. The fairytale consists of multiple complex parts, following a hero who wins over a queen and now needs to save her from a dragon. Inspired by the symbolism of psychoanalysis, I am drawn to paralels with everyday problems: overcoming endless troubles and persisting, growing through them. The book opens up and sucks the reader into the story with it's big format and detailed map-like landscape.
